Interview Tips
As recruitment consultants few things are more disappointing than having to notify a candidate that they have been UN-successful for a job.

It is always very disappointing when the candidate is really keen on the job and we have had feedback from the client that the candidate whilst having all the necessary qualifications and experience, simple did not come across well in the interview.

WHAT can be done to prevent this happening to you?

Some KEY POINTS to remember
1. People buy people first, then what they can do.
2. First impressions count
3. People like positive people
4. We all like people who are friendly

Some KEY POINTS to avoid
1. Never go for an interview half hearted, If before the interview you do not feel you can be positive, then it is better to cancel.
2. Do not go unprepared
3. Do not go inappropriately dressed
4. Do not, NOT turn up
Always give each and every interview you attend you’re best shot, as you may find, whilst the vacancy the client currently has is not suitable for you, their next vacancy could be the job of your dreams.

Interview checklist
Have you reviewed your CV?

Do you have any examples of work you can take along to show the client?

Have you researched the company, an easy place to research the company is on the internet, or ask the recruitment consultant.

Have you studied and considered the job description? you will need to show that your experience can benefit the project /company. If you have not received a copy of the job description ask your consultant.

Consider what type of questions the client is likely to ask you and prepare answers. Questions will normally be based around what they are looking for in the job description

Consider what question you may wish to ask about the job, company or project.

Remember first impressions count so consider your image. You never get a second chance to make a first impression.

Decide what to wear in advance and make sure your clothes are clean and presentable.

How are you going to get there? Plan your journey in advance allowing time for traffic disruptions, parking etc.

THE INTERVIEW
Always arrive on time. Do not arrive an hour early, expecting to be seen.

Ensure you know the name of the person you are seeing.

When introduced to the interviewer remember
· To smile warmly
· Your handshake should be firm but not vice like
· To Sit down when invited
· Be alert and enthusiastic.
· Sit upright but relaxed
· Do not fidget.
· Do not fold your arms across your chest.
· Try to maintain good eye contact (Guys this does not mean stare like an extra out of Apocalypse Now!)
· Try not to look at your watch as this indicates boredom or out of the window as this will imply that you are not interested.
· Always be confident and positive.

At the end of the interview, thank the interviewer for their time and make your exit gracefully!

And that’s it and with a little bit of look that job or contract of your dreams will be yours.

Good luck
