Resident Engineer / Deputy Resident Engineer - Uganda

We are seeking Resident Engineers and Deputy Resident Engineers with the following experiences:

12 – 15 years experience in paved roads projects as well as design and technical specification
5 year in at least 3 developing countries
7 – 10 yrs as RE/DRE of paved roads construction
Must have fulfilled role of RE/DRE in projects worth $30 - 50m
Experience to include Africa and preferably Uganda

Our Clients are an European Consutlant who have won a major African highway project in Uganda. The Government of Uganda obtained a grant from the European Development Fund (EDF) towards the cost of the consulting services; the award of the supervision contract is due to start in October 2010 for a period of 30 months.

The Northern Corridor Route forms part of the main international route connection Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo and runs from the Kenyan border via Kampala to the Rwandan border with approx. length of 650 km.

There are 3 lots:
Mbarara - Ntungamo section
Carriageway width averaging 6.2m, with varying unsealed shoulder width averaging 2.1m; the alignment is good, with exception of a short hilly section starting at km 54; total length 56.7km.

Ntungamo - Kabale section
76.2km long, and the carriageway width averages 6.4m. Shoulder width is variable, averaging 2.4m. The existing pavement construction is typically of natural gravel base of thickness 150mm, and 150mm of natural subbase, with DBST surfacing. Shoulders are unsealed.

Kabale - Katuna section
21.7km and the carriageway width average 7.1m. Shoulder width is variable, averaging 2.2m. The existing pavement construction is typically of lime stabilised natural gravel of thickness 170mm, and 200mm of natural gravel sub-base, with DBST surfacing. Shoulders are unsealed.

The rehabilitation of the Northern Corridor sections is undertaken on the existing horizontal alignment and within the existing right of way. The road rehabilitation consists of elevation of the road formation above the periodic flooding levels as well as rehabilitation of existing 6 bridges and 500 other drainage structures.

Supervision contract starts in October for a period of 30 months.
